Following on from awful weather on the Wednesday that halted had the PGA ProAm tournament being held at Hindhead, we arrived looking forward to play on a course that was in excellent condition. Despite all the rain the course had recovered extremely well, with only a few bunkers being deemed GUR. The match was a single round of 4BBB, and for those AOGS members who had never played the course before they were in a for a treat.
Overall the match was close run with Hindhead performing well in the opening matches and AOGS taking the honours in the later ones. As one of our newer fixtures it is already proving extremely popular. That said, Hindhead have now taken the honours twice in a row and in 2018 when AOGS host them again at Rye we must ensure that we take possession of the trophy (figuratively if not actually).
It was also extremely nice not having to wear a jacket and tie, with smart casual the order of the day. Mirza Datoo was disappointed that his birthday suit was deemed too smart and he was forced to wear his golfing gear once more. My thanks to all the AOGS members who played in the match. Next years fixture is the 31st July at Rye and will be 36 holes of Foursomes.
Match Result: Hindhead GC 3½, AOGS 2½
